Welcome to HOW WE TALK ABOUT SEX

This is a podcast that is a frank discussion about how we communicate and learn about sex and how it affects our lives. Each week, (hopefully) I bring on a new guest to talk about how their lives are affected by sex and sexuality. I talk to friends and strangers. People who like sex and people who don't like sex. I talk to parents and ask them how they teach or intend to teach their kids about sex. I talk to writers of erotica and sexual subjects. You will find a wide range of discussion on this podcast and I hope you will enjoy and share it with your friends and families.

The podcast is now officially International! While I was in Amsterdam for my birthday, I talked to Mariska Majoor of the Prostitution Information Center, which she opened in 1994 after she had stopped working as a prostitute. The PIC’s goal is to make it easier for people in general to talk openly about sex work and to create public respect for sex workers (a word used increasingly frequently rather than “prostitutes”). She is also the chairman of PROUD, which represents the interests of sex workers, not just in the workplace, but also in politics, media and society. One of the main tasks is to improve the image of female and male sex workers. "The biggest problem is still the stigma that hangs on everybody in the box, even if you do it with great pleasure. We have to try to do something about it," says Majoor.
